Tick...tick...tick

That is exactly what time has sounded like all day.  We are down to 5-6 hours.  The months and months of paperwork seem like mere images of the past.  The obsessing every single morning over my email, checking to see if there was news of ANY kind...now becoming distant memories.  We analyzed every single picture a million times, trying to get some sort of idea of what this baby boy was all about. The marathon is almost over.

And now we are just hours away from becoming Ty's parents.  I have to get used to the number 5.  5 kids.  Mom to many.  How did I become so blessed?

I'm so glad God chose us for this precious baby boy.

So, now I have to try and go to sleep.  Seriously, how is THAT going to happen!?!

Next post...Ty day.

The Great Wall

The day started with a trip to the Mutianyu part of the Great Wall.  This is a less crowded part of the Great Wall and the place that you take a Gondola up and the luge sled down.

Amazing views!!!

Their guide, Tom.

I seriously love these pictures!  What a great experience for these guys, esp. Jack.

After the Great Wall, they headed over the markets and shopped.  In the morning, they will be on a plane to Changsha and it will be time to get ready for the littlest Greig to arrive.

On the home front, we are getting ready to rip out every single flooring surface in the house.  We have been cleaning like crazy, getting rid of stuff and ORGANIZING!   Quinn is having a hard time with her Daddy being gone.  I had a feeling this would be rough for her.  She told me that she is "nervous" that her Daddy is in China.  She says she really just wants him to get Ty and come home now.

I'm with her!

A Day of Touring

The boys had a long day of touring in Beijing.  They went to Tiananmen Square...

The Forbidden City.....

And Summer Palace.

Jack tried to brave some local snacks, but didn't fare so well.

They found a field of lotus flowers, which has a great significance for us.  Our daughter, Quinn Lian was named after the beautiful lotus flower!

They even found that some locals thought it was just too hot for pants.

On the agenda for tomorrow is the Great Wall and SHOPPING.  (oh, so jealous!!)

We are counting the minutes until they get baby Ty.  We cannot wait to meet our little guy and see what he's all about.  I cannot help but think about the transition he is unknowingly getting ready to make.  I watched Quinn's gotcha video the other day and boy, it was brutal.  She was so hysterical and upset when her Ayi left her in the room with strangers (her Dad!).  It's hard to see these kiddos leave everything and everyone they have ever known, yet you know it's for the best.  You want to take away all their pain and pray that they quickly understand they finally have a family forever.

We pray that our baby boy will somehow know that he is going to a better life...with parents, siblings, never ending love and a lifetime of happiness.  Only 2 more nights and he's ours forever!

:)

Can't wait....

Beijing

The journey to China started bright and early at 4 AM, Wednesday.  We knew the flight was delayed the night before, so we were hoping the boys could get re-routed through Chicago.  There was no chance of them making their Beijing connection in San Fran as it was.  So, the airlines did this for them and once in Chicago, they experienced a day full of more delay.  They did not leave Chicago until 6 PM last night and finally arrived in Beijing at 9 PM, Thursday (8 AM our time).  They were both pretty exhausted, but in good spirits and excited to finally be in Beijing.  After a pretty good night of rest, they were headed out with their guide to see the Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.

I'll update the blog soon with those pictures.

Here's their send off at 4 AM....

A New Journey

Our new journey actually started back in January of this year.  As a family, we decided we would love to add a son/little brother to the clan.  The caboose, as we like to say.  But, it wasn't a decision that was made quickly.  I actually thought we were done.  I even vividly remember telling everyone that our family was complete with Quinn's adoption.  I felt completely satisfied and content with the size of our family.  You know that 'ole saying, "never say never"?  Well, I learned exactly what that meant.  I actually did say never.  And for those of you who know me, you heard it.  I lead an extremely busy life, which I love, but let's face it...4 kids, a business, activities and well, just plain LIFE...keeps one on their toes!  So, no one was more surprised than ME when this new journey was carved into our lives.

The thing here is the willingness to listen and follow something so much bigger than anything you can imagine.  It's the way it happened when we adopted Quinn and I'm so glad to say, it's the way things happened this time around as well.  My heart and eyes were opened to a path that was put before me.  Only God knew that there was a little guy out there that was meant to be in this family.  And trust me when I say, He sent signs...many signs that allowed me to see without a doubt that this was fate.

But still, there was fear there and it was tough to get through that.  We experienced a terrible tragedy with our first baby girl in China.  She passed away very unexpectedly right before we traveled to get her.  Going through something like that changed all of us.  It was a heart break I never wanted to experience again.  The fear of going through the process again was at times, paralyzing and I just didn't know if I could get past it.

And somehow, the signs kept coming and I just knew that it would be okay.  I was willing to put myself out there again...cautious, but hopeful.  I truly went into this with blind faith.  Deep breath.

We started on our paper work and had decided that we would take our time.  One thing led to another and we were given the file of Tian Yuan.  So much for taking our time.  We accepted his file the very next day!  Ty's paper work was pretty vague, but we knew he had TOF (tetralogy of fallot), the very same thing our niece had (and for you snowboarders out there, the same defect Shaun White had).  We were told that the orphanage had very little medical resources and that they were taking him to Beijing for possible surgery back in Feb.  That was the very last thing we heard until last week.  We had been asking for medical updates for months and we were finally told that Ty's heart is exactly the same.  No trip to Beijing and certainly no surgery.  There are many of these kids sitting over in orphanages, going without life saving medical treatments.  It's just beyond what most of us have ever experienced or could even imagine.

Which brings me to today...my wonderful husband and oh so sweet son have left for China.  I purposefully waited until today to start this blog.  Through out this process, I battled some raw emotions of fear and I didn't want that to overshadow the bigger picture of this precious baby.  He will officially be joining our family on Monday, the 6th.  I can hardly wait to see the pictures of 2 of my favorite guys holding our little guy.  There are NO amount of words that could ever say how excited we are to welcome Ty into our family...forever.  We are ready to get him home and certainly anxious to get his little heart fixed.

More to come each day!!!  We are so excited to see how all of this unfolds and just can barely wait to see this little face in our house soon!
